Ladies and Gentlemen, can I have your attention? I'd like to make an introduction. We have a special guest with us on the Senate Floor, I believe for the first time, the Governor of the State of Illinois, J. B. Pritzker. Welcome, Governor. Senator Hastings, for what purpose do you rise?
Point of personal privilege, Mr. President.
State your point.
In the last week, unfortunately, in Orland Park, we had a very tragic shooting that took place and it affected and it shook the community in the south suburbs. Very rarely, especially at the Orland Square Mall, do we have shootings. It's -- it touched our family very close to home. We -- we had a lot of great friends that manage stores within the mall and we had a lot of residents that were there shopping. And my wife had received a phone call from one of her friends, and I think it's -- I think it's very 6 STATE OF ILLINOIS 101st GENERAL ASSEMBLY REGULAR SESSION SENATE TRANSCRIPT 5th Legislative Day 1/29/2019 important to recognize those that not only serve, but act in a capacity of bravery and heroism. And I don't think he's ever going to stand up and tell anybody about it, but he was in a store where there was a lot of people. He moved a lot of people back to safety and -- and he shut the door and he locked the -- the gate so that nobody could go into the store. And what he did for those people who were extremely scared is -- is something that reminds me of what I saw in the military, in Iraq - bravery, people who go above and beyond the call of duty and that are willing to sacrifice their own life for others. There's no higher calling on this -- on this planet, on Earth, than to prevent people from getting hurt. And Senator Elgie Sims is that person. I just want to give him a round of applause. On behalf of the south suburbs, thank you. Thank you for what you did.
Senator Rose, for what purpose do you rise?
Thank you, Mr. President. On a happier note, I've got a point of personal privilege I'd like to make, if this is the appropriate time, Mr. President.
Yes. Proceed.
Thank you, Mr. President. Ladies and Gentlemen, in the President's Gallery are a number of young men. If they would rise. This is the Class 3A State Champion Football Team for this year. They're from Monticello, Illinois. They are coached by Coach Cully Welter, behind me. Their high school principal is Adam Clapp. Their school superintendent is Vic Zimmerman. The -- we also have 7 STATE OF ILLINOIS 101st GENERAL ASSEMBLY REGULAR SESSION SENATE TRANSCRIPT 5th Legislative Day 1/29/2019 a Regional Office of Education Superintendent, Matt Snyder, who happens to be the -- one very proud father of quarterback Braden Snyder. And then we also have Dan Sheehan, who is the Athletic Director. Their record is 14 and 0, Ladies and Gentlemen. In Coach Cully Welter's twenty-fifth year of head coaching, they are State Champions. Let's welcome them to Springfield.
