And next year, she'll be going to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to study agriculture education to help more students understand how they can help Illinois as -- in -- in its largest industry, which is, of course, agriculture. And it's an historic announcement, because for the first time ever, the Illinois County Fair Queen represents Winnebago County, in northern Illinois, and is from Rockford as well. So Alexi Bladel has been an active member of 4-H and FFA as well, and her goal is to increase agriculture awareness around the State of Illinois, and has worked with the Farm Bureau to see that farm concepts are taught in school. Today I'd like to invite all of my colleagues to participate in the 4th Annual Youth in Care and Alumni Shadow Day, which is presented by the Foster Care Alum of America, Illinois Chapter, in partnership with DCFS and the Illinois Statewide Youth Advisory Board. This year, the date will be May 15th. For the last four years, the Foster Care Alum of America, Illinois Chapter has brought over two hundred youth in care and alumni to participate in this program. And on the 15th, you have the opportunity to make a difference in the life of a current or -- or former foster kid. This morning, all of your Senate legislative assistants have been delivered a fact sheet about the Shadow Day as well as an invitation. I hope you'll consider joining me in making a difference in a foster kid's life. I've participated in this the last several years. Thank you, Madam President. As you all are aware, last Thursday -- a horrific crime was committed against those worshipping at Al Noor and Linwood Mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand. Fifty people, engaged in peaceful, beautiful prayer, lost their lives to a man whose mind was warped with hate and anti- immigrant propaganda. It is clearer now more than ever that gun violence and anti-Muslim bigotry is not just an American problem. This is a global epidemic of white nationalist rhetoric that we - - will require all of us to come together to confront. To our Muslim brothers and sisters: We stand shoulder to shoulder with you. Know this will not just be a day of remembrance, but weeks and months of ongoing action to support you and root out the evil causes of this horrendous attack. To my colleagues: I'm encouraged that New Zealand's government will be taking legislative action in hopes that no family is ever affected by gun violence in their country again. I strongly urge our legislature and those in Washington to take a similar approach. I would like to request a moment of silence in honor of the victims in New Zealand, the pain felt by the Muslim community, and all of those who have had their lives affected by senseless gun violence and bigotry. Thank you, Madam President. House Joint Resolution 24 supports legislation in Congress to close a loophole that affects thousands of internationally adopted individuals. When the Child Citizenship Act passed in 2000, the Child Citizenship Act of 2000 granted automatic citizenship to internationally born children adopted by American-citizen parents, but those born before 1982 were left out. I took this on because, in 1985, I was adopted and being an adoptee is a huge part of who I am. The resolution passed with unanimous bipartisan support in the House, with no opposition. I urge a Yes vote.
