The American College of Surgeons is a scientific and educational organization of surgeons that was founded in 1913 to raise the standards of surgical practice and improve the quality of care for surgical patients. The College is dedicated to the ethical and competent practice of surgery. Its achievements have significantly influenced the course of scientific surgery in America and have established it as an important advocate for all surgical patients. Headquartered in downtown Chicago, the College has more than eighty-two thousand members and is the largest organization of surgeons in the world. Logan's a sophomore at Quincy University, in Senator Tracy's district. At -- at Quincy University, he's involved in the Marching Band, World War II reenactments, and Quincy University Students for Life. Logan is a major in Computer Science and a minor in Philosophy. When he graduates, he wants to pursue a career in either computer programming or, perhaps, the seminary. Logan is very interested in politics and -- and the State of Illinois, so I was pleased to have him here today and like everybody to please welcome Logan Klitzing to the Illinois State Senate. Sean did such a nice job at it, I invited him to come down and shadow me today to watch a legislature in action. Sean's in eighth grade at Morgan Park Academy. He is interested in, perhaps, studying medicine, but he's also interested in politics. I've advised him to combine the two and go to med school and then run for the General Assembly. She's, again, a wonderful young lady I had the opportunity to speak with today and sit in meetings with, just one -- one of our upcoming stars. I'd like to introduce my Page for the Day, Rick Nielsen. And if I can have your attention, we're -- Rick Nielsen, as many of you know, has been here a number of times. Actually, in 2007, some of you who were here, we passed legislation creating Cheap Trick Day in Illinois, which happens to be on July 1st -- I mean April 1st every year. And that was -- that was passed in 2007. But a little bit of background for you younger Members with Rick and his background with Cheap Trick: Over five thousand plus 13 STATE OF ILLINOIS 101st GENERAL ASSEMBLY REGULAR SESSION SENATE TRANSCRIPT 43rd Legislative Day 5/15/2019 concerts. He's currently touring around the world. In fact, leaving from here to go to Dallas and then over -- back over -- overseas, so they're keeping busy. Recently, was -- received his award of being voted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Absolutely. And you know some of his -- some of his big hits: I Want You to Want Me, Surrender, Dream Police - some of the big hits over the years. And if you don't remember those, you'll probably remember some of the theme songs to That '70s Show or Simpsons or Colbert, or soundtracks in Top Gun, Guardians of the Galaxy, Scrubs, Transformers, just to name a few. And the nice thing about Rick is, he's had a choice to live anywhere in the country and he's chosen to keep Illinois his home and to keep Rockford his home. And probably the smartest thing he's done is go into business with a great young Senator from Rockford - not Stadelman, but me. But we're honored to have him down here and - - and he's here with some others supporting Rockford today and some of the key issues that we're working on on behalf of Rockford. So, would you -- I would like to have you join us and -- join Steve and I in welcoming Rick Nielsen back to the Senate.

Thank you, Mr. President. I -- I rise to recognize the month of May as Asian (and Pacific Islander) American Heritage Month. The Asian American and Pacific Islander community is an extremely diverse community, as it's comprised of over twenty-five -- sorry, forty-five distinct ethnicities and more than a hundred different languages. The Asian American population grew faster than any other racial or ethnic group over the last decade, surging more than seventy percent between the year 2000 and 2015, according to the Bureau of the Census. While Asian American and Pacific Islander Americans have made countless contributions to the history of Illinois and the U. S., they have made their mark in the face of brutal discrimination, working conditions, and inherent prejudice. The community has persevered to prosper by taking a leadership role in the fields of education, business, art, science, law, medicine, and IT. It's for this reason and -- among many, that we in the Illinois Senate should recognize the month of May as Asian (and Pacific Islander) American Heritage Month. Lastly, I will add that today was Asian American Advocacy Day and I thank my colleagues for welcoming folks from the Asian American community here today, like you have me in the Senate. Thank you.
