Thank you, Mr. President. Ladies and Gentlemen of the Senate, I know that Senator Hunter introduced my predecessor, Senator Earlean Collins and Commissioner Collins, but I wanted you guys to know that she was so influential in my development and me arriving here after she'd served as the first woman ever to serve in Leadership in the Illinois Senate. I knew I had big shoes to fill and I was so concerned that I would not be able to step up to her caliber. After leaving here, she went on to serve as a Commissioner for another twenty years. Here's a woman who's dedicated her entire life to public service, so I just wanted to tell her thank you and let her know how much we love and appreciate her. And if we could give her another round of applause that I 10 STATE OF ILLINOIS 101st GENERAL ASSEMBLY REGULAR SESSION SENATE TRANSCRIPT 71st Legislative Day 1/28/2020 could participate in. Thank you.

Don Harmon (D)

Ladies and Gentlemen of the Senate, a brief reminder that Friday of this week is the deadline to submit requests for bill drafts to the Legislative Reference Bureau. So please turn in your requests to LRB. Ladies and Gentlemen of the Senate, last Sunday at the -- the election of the new Senate President, I was pleased to be at the microphone but did not have a chance at that point to announce the Senate Democratic Leadership team and I'd like to take that opportunity. As I said last Sunday, I am thrilled that Senator Kimberly Lightford is staying on as our Majority Leader. Thank you, Senator Lightford. Senator Bill Cunningham is joining the Leadership team as an Assistant Majority Leader and the President Pro Tem. Senator Cunningham. Senator Laura Murphy is joining our Leadership team as the Deputy Majority Leader. Senator Linda Holmes is joining the ranks of the Assistant Majority Leaders. Senator Holmes, thank you. I am very happy that we will have some consistency with Senators Dave Koehler, Iris Martinez, and Tony Muñoz all remaining as Assistant Majority Leaders. Thank you for your continued service. Senator Mattie Hunter will remain our Caucus Chair. Thank you, Senator Hunter. Senator Jacqueline Collins is staying in the Leadership team, but as the Deputy Majority Caucus Chair. Thank you, Senator Collins, for accepting that new responsibility. And we will have three new Majority Caucus Whips: Senator Omar Aquino, Senator Michael Hastings, and Senator Napoleon Harris. So I am very pleased with the… I am very pleased with such a -- a robust and diverse Leadership team and I look forward to counting on all of you to get us through this transition and the remainder of the Session.
