PRESIDING OFFICER: (SENATOR LIGHTFORD) 4 STATE OF ILLINOIS 102nd GENERAL ASSEMBLY REGULAR SESSION SENATE TRANSCRIPT 41st Legislative Day 5/13/2021 Yes. Please state your privilege, Senator.
Every day nurses work hard to deliver compassionate and quality care in a variety of health care settings throughout Illinois. But during the last fourteen months, our nurses have gone above and beyond to address health care needs during extraordinary {sic} difficult times. As families across the State took precautionary steps to avoid exposure to COVID-19 virus, nurses walked straight toward the -- this highly contagious and quickly spreading virus. The -- the sacrifices they made with their families, and put their {sic} health of others ahead of their own. Nurses Appreciation Week is celebrated in Illinois -- and nationally from May 6th to the 12th, and on Saturday, I had the opportunity to personally thank hundreds of nurses from Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove. I had some wonderful conversation with these caregivers, many of whom continue to work demanding schedules as the hospital continues to respond to COVID- 19-related illnesses and other health crises. The seven hundred and forty-three nurses at Good Sam represent just a fraction of the nursing workforce throughout our State. And today, we continue to celebrate Nurses Appreciation Week. I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to every nurse in every Illinois community for their dedicated service to Illinoisans in need of quality health care and would just ask that everyone join me in celebrating our State's nurses during Nurses Appreciation Week. Thank you, Madam President.
PRESIDING OFFICER: (SENATOR LIGHTFORD) Thank you, Senator Curran, and thank you to all of our nurses. Senator Bailey, for what purpose do you rise? 5 STATE OF ILLINOIS 102nd GENERAL ASSEMBLY REGULAR SESSION SENATE TRANSCRIPT 41st Legislative Day 5/13/2021
