I would like to acknowledge the extraordinary public service of Judith Johnson to the Springfield community through her twenty years on the Springfield District 186 School Board. Many of you may know her, as she retired from the Illinois State Senate just a few years ago. Ms. Johnson was a fierce advocate for the students, parents, teachers, and administrators in the district and was not afraid to ask the hard, difficult questions and demand answers and, more importantly, action. She represented a district 3 STATE OF ILLINOIS 102nd GENERAL ASSEMBLY REGULAR SESSION SENATE TRANSCRIPT 44th Legislative Day 5/18/2021 that included a large majority of African American and low-income students, and I will tell you that her -- that their educational experience was definitely enhanced because she was at the table. This year, the Springfield Chapter of the ACLU presented Ms. Johnson with the 2021 Larry Golden Civil Libertarian Award for her advocacy for students and parents while serving on the District 186 School Board. So, congratulations to Ms. Judith Johnson for a job well done.

Mr. President, I notice that on the list of appointees -- are missing a number of the Governor's appointees, some of which have been pending - appointed by the Governor - well beyond the sixty days required -- sixty Session days required under the Constitution. I question whether the intent is for those appointees, some of which are very controversial - they're making decisions on behalf of the Governor on some of their board appointments - and I'm curious whether the intent is for those appointees to be heard in committee and taken up on the Floor yet before the end of the May 31st adjournment?
