Ladies and Gentlemen, if I could have the Chamber's attention, this is a sad… This morning about 6:45, we found out that one of my best friends in the world, a Champaign police officer, was shot in the line of duty. He is going to be okay. Unfortunately, his partner, Chris Oberheim, who I don't know, but who's my constituent 6 STATE OF ILLINOIS 102nd GENERAL ASSEMBLY REGULAR SESSION SENATE TRANSCRIPT 45th Legislative Day 5/19/2021 from Monticello, Chris was killed defending the citizens of North Champaign. My friend's name hasn't been released to the public yet, so I'm not going to say it, but he's in stable condition - thankfully. He is the coach for my son's Little League team. He's faithfully served as the games coordinator for our church's AWANA program that my kids go to. And he's defined by his faith. Officer Oberheim, his wife is the nurse practitioner in Monticello. Her boss has already called me this morning to tell me what an amazing person he was and how devastating it is to that community. He's the father of four, four little kids. He also was, apparently, a coach. I saw on his Facebook page, somebody said, we will never forget the sacrifice that you made in your profession, the sacrifice that you made -- that you made so you -- you could coach our girls on the softball team. This person went on to say, "I remember the many times you worked an overnight shift, coming straight to a tournament with no sleep." That was Chris Oberheim. He was a veteran of the Champaign Police Department, also Decatur Police Department. I talked to the Decatur Chief this morning, who told me that Chris' many friends still in that department are mourning his loss, along with their brothers and sisters in the Champaign department. Chris has relatives that are still police officers in Decatur. I talked to the Monticello Superintendent of Schools today, Vic Zimmerman, who also noted the -- the enormity of the loss for the community of Monticello with Chris' passing. Both of these men displayed the courage and selfless sacrifice that defines our brave men and women in blue. Please join me in praying for Chris' family, the successful recovery of my friend who was wounded, and to keep all of our men and women in blue safe as they serve each and every one of us every day. In order to protect a student's confidential information, none of that would be listed. It would certainly -- it would just simply be a numerical system. And in a smaller community, where there may be only one incident, it would be listed as less than ten. So we have worked through all of the opposition on this bill. I'm happy to entertain any questions, should there be any. Otherwise, I would ask for an Aye vote.

In 1992, Illinois established a -- 16 STATE OF ILLINOIS 102nd GENERAL ASSEMBLY REGULAR SESSION SENATE TRANSCRIPT 45th Legislative Day 5/19/2021 sister-state relations with Taiwan Province and have mutually enjoyed a strong bilateral trade, educational and cultural exchange, and tourism. Some of us have been honored to be invited to Taiwan and -- and -- and -- and take a trip. And those folks that are in Chicago have -- probably have met some of the folks from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office. Today -- this evening, I invite everyone to come join some of us and -- and this inaugural caucus at Kiku restaurant from 6 to 9 this evening.
