Thank you, Mr. President, and Ladies and Gentlemen of the Senate. I'd like to introduce you to none other than Miss Illinois. She is Monica Nia Jones. She was born and raised in the vibrant City of Chicago, where she attended Francis Xavier Warde School and the Chicago Public School of Fine Arts. In 2018, she obtained her Bachelors of Science degree in business and special events from Arizona State University, and she holds a certificate in Marketing and Communications for Fashion and Luxury Brands for the Com--Com-- Complutense University of Madrid. I really messed that up. Monica Nia is both an accomplished dancer and violinist, studying at the Alvin Ailey School Chicago Multicultural Dance Center, home of the Hiplet Ballerinas, Indiana University, Jacobs School of Music, Northwestern University, and the Hyde Park Suzuki Institute. Her passion for music and arts has led her to her social impact initiative, MUSIC Uniting Souls (Inspiring) Communities, music, which she promotes the importance of diversity and exposure within classical music by bridging the gap between various communities by one common interest. Monica Nia competed at the Miss America competition in December of 2022. At the Miss America competition in December of 2022, Monica Nia placed in the top 11 and she walked away from Miss America as America's Choice, raising over $53,000, the most raised in history since Miss America. Monica Nia has opened her franchise called HOTWORX, located in River North Chicago, and is currently pursuing a Master of Communications. Thank you, Mr. President. Senate Resolution 62, declares the week of May 7th through May 13th as "Compost Awareness Week" in the State of Illinois. Composting is an effective form of waste reduction and recycling, and since organic materials make up approximately 30 percent of material going into landfills, composting is becoming one of the primary methods of communities to reach their waste reduction goals. I ask for your support.

If I may, we'd like to welcome nearly 20, 4- H Members from across Illinois, who are attending the University of Illinois Extension 4-H Legislative Connection event today and tomorrow at the Capitol. These youth represent 12 different 4-H programs from counties reaching from counties touching our Wisconsin border to our Southmost counties and across the State, representing nearly 100,000 4-H participants in all 102 counties. These teens represent the Illinois 4-H Youth Leadership Team and 4-H members trained through the speaking for Illinois 4-H program. They've been active in their local 4-H clubs and communities, and community service projects and 4-H learning experiences include stem, animal science, health, living, civic engagement, and the creative arts. We know many of us here today are 4-H alumni, or have a connection to 4-H, and this is a reminder to all of us of the importance and the value of 4-H across the State of Illinois. Thank you, Sir.
