Sure. Thank -- thank you, Mr. President. Ladies and Gentlemen of the Senate, I am so happy that we have, Miss USOA, Illinois, Shanale Mason. Now, she may look familiar to many of you because she worked here in Springfield, in the Capitol for -- for many years. At first, she was Senator Simmons, LA, then she transitioned to the Communications department, and she was my Communication liaison, as well as, she supported Leader Harris and former Senator Van Pelt, and I believe, Senator Jones. And currently, she is the Communications and Outreach Director for my district office team. So, I'm happy that she's here. And I want to say that in November of 2023, Shanale Mason competed in the United States of American pageants, and she took home the winning title, making history becoming the first black USOA Miss Illinois. Since her reign this year, Shanale has worked diligently, traveling throughout the State of Illinois to support organizations and to help inspire and uplift youth. Her platform focuses on adolescent grief and loss, health, and homelessness. Shanale will represent the State of Illinois at Nationals this year in July in Texas, to compete for the United States of America's Miss category. This Black History 3 STATE OF ILLINOIS 103rd GENERAL ASSEMBLY REGULAR SESSION SENATE TRANSCRIPT 83rd Legislative Day 2/21/2024 Month, we recognize Shanale and applaud her for inspiring the next generation of girls and boys, young leaders to be great and never, ever give up on their dreams.
