I shouldn't say this, but her boyfriend ran into her, and -- and she tore her ACL. Boy and Girls Clubs provide a safe and positive environment for young people to learn, grow, and become productive adults. So, for the past two days, the Boys and Girls Club, CEOs, and Board Members, and other stakeholders have been in Springfield meeting and culminating in the announcement of the Boys -- Boys and Girls Club Youth of the Year. So, there were ten individuals that were being considered, and they were from, Scout -- Scott Air Force Base Boys and Girls Club, the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Mississippi Valley, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Elgin, Dundee County {sic} Township, Bloomington-Normal, Chicago, Livingston County, Rockford, Union League Boys and Girls Clubs, and the Boys 7 STATE OF ILLINOIS 103rd GENERAL ASSEMBLY REGULAR SESSION SENATE TRANSCRIPT 104th Legislative Day 4/30/2024 and Girls Clubs of Central Illinois, which is in Springfield. And I am really happy, excited, and very proud to announce that the youth that was named Boys and Girls Club Youth of the Year is Pharez Carter. And drumroll, he's from Springfield. Pharez was planning to join us, on the Floor, and he was very excited about that. But due to all of their activities, they weren't going to be able to make it to the Capitol until 2:00, but I do want to share a little bit about Pharez because he is a phenomenal young man. He is a 15-years-old Springfield native and student athlete attending Southeast High School with a very impressive 3.7 GPA. He joined the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Illinois After School Program in the second grade and has continued participating in numerous programs and athletic activities since then. He, is a very caring, productive, responsible citizen who volunteers and mentors' other local youth, exemplifying himself as a social support leader in the Springfield community. He was recently honored as the 2023 Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Illinois Youth of the Year, earning him a spot to compete for the Youth of the Year Statewide award. He, after school, Pharez plans to attend UCLA to acquire a Bachelor of Science degree focusing on sports and health sciences, in hopes of continuing the Boys and Girls Club of Central Illinois champion legacy. For Pharez, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Illinois has sparked a bright light within him that nothing will dim.
