We celebrate milestones, here in the Chamber and with our broader family and one of the hardest things we do is to allow our great staff to move on to new and bigger and better challenges. So, today, is the last Session Day for my Deputy Press Secretary, Liz Mitchell -- who switched sides on me. She's going to go on to be the -- the Public Information Officer at the Prisoner Review Board and to take on some legislative duties, as well. So, we will not be losing her in the grand scheme, just here for our caucus. So, I wanted to thank her for all of her work, she started out writing for me when I was a Member and for several others who have come and gone here, but has done a great job and will be a great success in her new job, as well. So, join me in wishing Liz all the best in her new career.

Madam President, and Ladies and Gentlemen of the Senate, I rise today to honor the life of a good friend, his name is James "Boz" O'Brien. So, my grandparents grew up behind town tavern called Reilley's Daughter. And I learned at about 4 a.m., what beer bottles sound like when they hit a dumpster and I became familiar with that because in the back alley, that's where it occurred. I also learned something about Mr. O'Brien, otherwise known as "Boz", that he didn't tolerate disorder, especially at Riley's Daughter. He believed in respect, responsibility, and taking care of his neighborhood. "Boz" was older than me, he knew my grandfather, my father, and my uncle. He understood families and generations and he seemed to know about just every Mount Carmel 10 STATE OF ILLINOIS 104th GENERAL ASSEMBLY REGULAR SESSION SENATE TRANSCRIPT 69th Legislative Day 2/4/2026 and Mary's kid coming home to celebrate a 21st birthday party. That kind of connection doesn't come from running a town tavern, it comes from being part of the community. Reilley's Daughter is not just a business, it's a place where people gather to celebrate, to grieve, to argue about Notre Dame football, and to look out for one another. That didn't happen by accident. It happened because "Boz" O'Brien and the family behind him. "Boz" is a good man, he cared about his neighbors, our community, and doing things the right way. And he also gave me life experiences that helped me, shaped me professionally as a lawyer, lessons about people, responsibility that no classroom -- or a classroom or anything could ever teach you. I was immensely proud to watch "Boz's" success and his son's success, and just as proud to see the continued success of our local tavern, which is a South Side institution that reflects the values he lived by. "Boz" leaves behind more than memories. He leaves behind a legacy of community, continuity and heart. Thank you, Madam President. I ask for a moment of silence.
