STATE OF ILLINOIS 91ST GENERAL ASSEMBLY REGULAR SESSION SENATE TRANSCRIPT 9th Legislative Day February 17, 1999 Senator Myers moves to postpone the reading and the approval of the Journal, pending arrival of the printed transcript. There being no objection, so ordered. May I have your attention, please - particularly those people who are still in their office? We have a special guest here, if you would come up to the Floor, a very special guest from Washington, D.C. And if you'd come up here in the next five minutes, you'll have an opportunity to hear his message. Thank you. Senator Demuzio, for what purpose do you rise?

SENATOR DEMUZIO

Thank you, Mr. President. I'd like the record to reflect today that Senator Bowles is absent due to some health problems in her family.

PRESIDENT PHILIP

The record will so indicate. If I could have your attention for a minute. We're very privileged to have with us the new United States Senator from Illinois, Senator Peter Fitzgerald. As you know, he has... And as you're probably aware, he has served with us here - I think six years at least. And we all know him well and all love him well, and he certainly did an outstanding job in the primary and the November election, and we're so very proud of what he has done in Washington, D.C. He stands for everything that is good and right. Without further ado, that wonderful Senator from Illinois, Peter Fitzgerald.

U.S. SENATOR PETER FITZGERALD

(Remarks by U.S. Senator Peter Fitzgerald)

PRESIDENT PHILIP

Senator Demuzio, for what purpose do you rise?

SENATOR DEMUZIO

Well, I'd like to have a ruling from the Chair, if I might. First of all, I wish that Senator Fitzgerald, if he's listening - Senator Fitzgerald? - if you would, please tell... STATE OF ILLINOIS 91ST GENERAL ASSEMBLY REGULAR SESSION SENATE TRANSCRIPT 9th Legislative Day February 17, 1999

PRESIDENT PHILIP

May we have some peace and quiet, please?

SENATOR DEMUZIO

...tell Senator Byrd I didn't like Chapter 6, where Hannibal devastated Italy. And number two, a ruling from the Chair: Is this a gift we can accept now under this new bill, or -- or not?
