Senate Journal of Thursday, March 7th, 2002.
Senator Jones.
Mr. President, I move that the Journal just read by the Secretary be approved, unless some Senator has additions or corrections to offer.
Senator Jones moves to approve the Journal just read. There being no objection, so ordered. Senator Demuzio, for what purpose do you rise?
Thank you, Mr. President. Let the record reflect today that Senator Bowles is absent due to legislative business; Senator Viverito absent, due to personal business; Senator Silverstein, medical reasons; and Munoz has a death in the family. 1 STATE OF ILLINOIS 92ND GENERAL ASSEMBLY REGULAR SESSION SENATE TRANSCRIPT 78th Legislative Day March 20, 2002
The record will so... We're very, very happy to have here today Senator Sieben, who has got the -- who has got the county -- County Fair Queen Jennifer Maurer. She's going to be introduced and say a few words. Senator Sieben.
Thank you, Members of the -- President, Members of the Senate. You know, I'm better looking than Senator Sieben or Senator Noland, but anyway, this young lady is -- you know, she's -- she's a very impressive young lady from Effingham County. She's the Illinois County Fair Queen. Of course, Senator Noland and I represent Effingham County, so I've asked him to join me here. But before we introduce her, I'd like to recognize Director of Agriculture, Mr. Joe Hampton.
(Remarks by Director Joe Hampton)
Thank you, Director. It's -- anyway, it's -- it's my pleasure to introduce this -- this very impressive young lady who is the Illinois County Fair Queen from Effingham County. She comes from my part of the county. Even though Senator Noland has a little bit of Effingham County, she actually comes from my part of the county. But anyway, her name is Jennifer Maurer. She's an exceptional young lady. She's going to be graduating from high school this year and going to the University of Illinois, and she's active in all kind of programs: the Gifted Program, the National Honor Society, Dramatics, volunteer Effingham County Fair for eight years, and she has a perfect 4.0 GPA, valedictorian, National Merit Scholar, Illinois State Scholar. She has many, many achievements. And believe it or not, she -- she lifts weights. You know, I talked to some of the FFA boys and asked them, I said, "Have you met this young lady?" They said, "No, 2 STATE OF ILLINOIS 92ND GENERAL ASSEMBLY REGULAR SESSION SENATE TRANSCRIPT 78th Legislative Day March 20, 2002 we're not interested in -- in that." I said, "Well, if you see her you will be, or there's something wrong with you." But anyway, it's with -- with great pleasure for me to introduce Jennifer. She's an outstanding young lady. Jennifer. ILLINOIS COUNTY FAIR QUEEN JENNIFER MAURER: (Remarks by Illinois County Fair Queen Jennifer Maurer)
Thank you, Jennifer. I'd like to also recognize Jennifer's parents, Scott and Sally Glenn. Thank you for joining us.
Thank you very much. I think all of you who've been to your offices today have found a small bushel basket with a lot of Illinois agricultural products. Those baskets were delivered to your offices by the young men and women today representing the FFA associations, the beautiful people in the blue jackets. Let's give 'em a nice round of applause. It's been my privilege, since last June, to represent Lee County. And from Lee County and the community of Amboy is the -- the State President of the FFA. Colleen Dickinson has served almost her full term. She'll -- her term expires in June. High School senior, State FFA President from Amboy. She'll be attending the University of Illinois this fall and majoring in ag communications. Please welcome Colleen Dickinson.
(Remarks by FFA President Colleen Dickinson)
Thank you very much, Colleen. I think we can all see that the future of Illinois agriculture is in good hands with these young ladies, and also with the representatives of the Illinois Agri-Women Association. If they would please rise and be recognized in the gallery. Illinois Agri-Women. Thank you very much. 3 STATE OF ILLINOIS 92ND GENERAL ASSEMBLY REGULAR SESSION SENATE TRANSCRIPT 78th Legislative Day March 20, 2002

Mr. President, can I have your attention?
Could we kind of calm it down a little, please?
I'm reliably told that all this euphoria that Members are expressing today is not the fact that we had winners from yesterday's election, but the euphoria is because of Terry Link's 53rd birthday today. And I haven't seen the cake arrive yet, but I'm sure that the -- he's not that cheap. I'm sure it'll arrive before too -- too long. So happy birthday, Terry Link.
Senator Demuzio, did you say he was sixty-three years old? Sixty-three? Okay. Well, he's -- he's a young sixty-three.
