PRESIDING OFFICER: (SENATOR WELCH) 3rd Reading. Senator Demuzio, for what purpose do you rise?
Well, Mr. President, if I could have the attention of the Members for a moment, please. I know there’s a number of conferences that are going on.
PRESIDING OFFICER: (SENATOR WELCH) Could we have attention? Senator Demuzio has an important announcement to make - as all of his announcements are.
I always have an important announcement to make. Thank you very much, Mr. President. Mr. President, we are honored today by a special guest, Brett Rose. Brett is in the gallery in front of me. Would you stand for a moment -- for a minute, Brett? Ladies and Gentlemen, he is also here with Ollie and Julie {sic} (Judy) Schwallenstecker, who are constituents of mine from my district. But I want to point out some extraordinary action that was taken by this young man that I think that the Body would be pleased to know. As you know, the Illinois Senate is always pleased to recognize a number of individuals who have gone beyond the call of duty. Well, Brett Rose, of Bunker Hill, did just exactly that when he saved the life of his brother, Austin. Brett is the son of Debra and Hubert Rose of Bunker Hill. And he is thirteen years old. He’s a student at Meissner Junior High School. And whereas, Brett learned his basic first aid as part of his eighth-grade health class. He came home one day and he found his brother, Austin, unconscious in the kitchen. Well, Brett placed his brother on the floor and began performing CPR. And through his swift and focused actions, Brett managed to get his brother breathing again and, therefore, saving his life. I thought that the 12 STATE OF ILLINOIS 93rd GENERAL ASSEMBLY REGULAR SESSION SENATE TRANSCRIPT 82nd Legislative Day 2/20/2004 Members of the Senate would want to congratulate Brett for his courage, his presence of mind, his heroism, and wish him the best of luck in the future, and serving as an -- exemplary example of how learning about CPR can help others. And so, Brett, we say congratulations to you for the -- for the -- what you’ve done and best of wishes to you in the -- in the future.

PRESIDING OFFICER: (SENATOR WELCH) The record will so reflect. Senator Jacobs, what purpose do you rise?
Thank you, Mr. President. For a point of personal privilege.
PRESIDING OFFICER: (SENATOR WELCH) State your point.
An announcement. It’s not very often that someone reaches a milestone while they’re in the Senate, but my seatmate, Tony Munoz, who’s trying to run away now, just turned the ripe old age of forty on Wednesday. And he probably thought he was going to get away without being noticed, but he’s also pretty cheap 13 STATE OF ILLINOIS 93rd GENERAL ASSEMBLY REGULAR SESSION SENATE TRANSCRIPT 82nd Legislative Day 2/20/2004 and didn’t buy a cake. But we want to say happy fortieth to my seatmate, my friend, Tony Munoz.
