She has volunteered for the Illinois Coalition on Immigrant and Refugee Rights by phone banking, encouraging voters in committee {sic} to “Get out the Vote.” She has conducted door-knocking campaigns for the voter to say “Yes” on the Illinois Constitutional Convention. She’s also participated in Model United Nations programs for two years. She’s taken an interest in politics ever since. And so this recognizes that expressway from Chicago to the Quad Cities, down to Galesburg, Monmouth, Macomb, and to Quincy, and then across the State of Illinois. Senate Joint Resolution 114 is the General Assembly’s –- makes modifications to the waiver requests submitted by school districts in the State of Illinois. The behind-the-wheel waivers are limited to one year only, and that’s an issue we worked with the Secretary of State to get a compromise to give the schools relief during the budget crunch. Elgin’s behind- the-wheel waiver will be modified to conform with ISBE’s previous requirement, that four hours of simulator time be used in lieu of one hour behind-the-wheel. The resolution also upholds ISBE’s ruling that Elgin may not waive its bilingual staffing ratio of ninety percent. And lastly, Palatine’s P.E. request is modified to reflect our -- sort of an agreement that they made with a parent group in Palatine.
