PRESIDING OFFICER: (SENATOR LIGHTFORD) Ladies and Gentlemen of the Senate, please take your seats. Please take your seats and give the attention to Senator LaHood. SENATOR LaHOOD: Madam President, I come to the Floor today to honor Mr. Michael Holmes. Mr. Michael Holmes was a employee of the Illinois Department of Transportation as a seasonal worker. Last Friday, February 14th, he was doing his job as an IDOT worker in Stark County in Wyoming, Illinois, and while he was plowing snow that day, he stepped outside of his plow truck to assist a stranded motorist when another vehicle, driven by an elderly couple, collided with him and he was killed on the spot. Mr. Holmes had worked for IDOT for the last eight years as a seasonal snowplow driver. He was committed and dedicated to keeping our roads safe, 13 STATE OF ILLINOIS 98th GENERAL ASSEMBLY REGULAR SESSION SENATE TRANSCRIPT 87th Legislative Day 2/20/2014 plowing snow, salting our roads. And he leaves a wife, Trudy; his mother, Joyce; and two daughters, Jessica and April. Tomorrow, Secretary Ann Schneider and myself will be at his funeral in Wyoming, Illinois. Senate Resolution 935 will be presented to the family of Mike Holmes for the remembrance of his service to the State of Illinois and his heroic act on February 14th of assisting a stranded motorist. I would ask for a moment of silence, Ms. President.
