Before we came down here, the Governor spoke about unity, and I thought that was a good tone to set coming into this difficult week and making the tough decisions that we have to make going forward. And I was hoping that, with working together and through communication, effectively communicating, meetings with Leaders and rank and file Members, that this would be a productive week for us. And I think it still can be. Quietly, Members are working behind the scenes. We are close to a deal. However, there are mailers going out daily… mailers daily bashing Members, millions of dollars being spent in different communities, and that makes it difficult to negotiate down here in good faith. It's hard to sit across the table from someone, and be beat up unfairly back home, and work towards the good of the people while we're down here. There was a time where Members had dinner together, engaged together, spoke about things, and got things done. And I think that that was important and we need to get back to that. We truly need to lay down our arms for just a bit, put those things to the side and work for the welfare of this state. Thank you very much."
