As we're speaking, we're hearing the results of shooting again in another high school. This time in Sante Fe, Texas. We know of as this time that there are eight young people that have lost their lives. This is unacceptable. Governor, we are giving you solutions to try to stop this and you continue to stop us every time we come forward with something. We've reached out across the aisle to come to what we feel are sensible solutions to try to do this. Is there any one thing that's going to stop it? No. It's going to take a lot of work. It's going to take a lot of hard work together. But I am at the point in my life where I do not, I repeat, I do not want to stand up for another moment of silence, because somebody has tragically lost their life to senseless gun violence. That is what we are seeing happening every day, every week; it is some part of this nation we are hearing about this. We are hearing about a mass shooting of somebody that shouldn't have a gun, getting a gun, doing senseless shootings. It's because we don't have the proper mental health out there. We are not taking proper steps to secure guns to keep them out of the wrong people's hands. We are not educating our communities on how to deal with this gun violence. We're not doing a lot of things. And it is time we step forward and do it. We have these solutions right at our hands. We're going to have a hearing on Monday to talk about more of these solutions. But we put forth before the Governor a Gun Dealer Licensing Bill that we know will stop some gun tragedies. Will it stop them all? No. But it will stop some and if that one person is stopped from being shot is somebody that you care about, darn, that's a good Bill. We need to have that put in to action and we need to have the Governor sign that Bill and put it forth so that we can stop the senseless… the violence that is happening every day in our schools. Please, I urge this Body to work with me to get the message to the Governor that this must stop. And I do not want to have to stand for another moment of silence for somebody senselessly killed. In a couple of weeks… a couple of week ago, we had vote on a Bill to allow breastfeeding so mothers were reasonably accommodated to pump milk at work. There's a Bill in the House right now to address the fact that many courthouses don't have adequate space for breastfeeding for women including members of the public and lawyers who are just trying to do their job. Women in the workplace are still being discriminated against for being pregnant. They're still being forced to choose between the physical wellbeing of themselves and their children and keeping their job. This is happening even with laws like the pregnant… Pregnancy Discrimination Act that Representative Flowers introduced that is in law and laws that can be weakened and replaced. We need the Equal Rights Amendment now to ensure that women are not forced to completely sacrifice caring for themselves and their children in order to provide for their families. Governor Rauner, I spoke to you this week and I said I love you, and I bless you and I'm praying for you, but it is also your responsibility that falls heavy for this state. There would be no distinction between sexes at all. There would be no breastfeeding rooms. There would be no Bills as Representative Moeller even passed stating that we should have a women's task force that dealt with women's issues. All of that would be negated if we were to pass an ERA Amendment. It would literally say there is no distinction or difference between sexes, which is absolutely ridiculous and unscientific. So, enough of this. Let's… let's just get back to the duties and the work that we're supposed to do here. I will tell you what. Personally, I have never felt that my progress in the State House has been impeded by my sex nor have I ever felt held back by my sex. Women have more opportunities than ever before in our lifetime. Women complete more college degrees than men do. So, let's just realize that scientifically speaking there is a difference between the sexes and yet come up with a number of Bills.
