In coordination with the Illinois National Guard, Major General Neely, Speaker Welch, and Leader Durkin, I've put together a field trip to visit Lincoln's ChalleNGe at Rantoul on 1 April. The Illinois Army National Guard will provide two CH-47 aircrafts, each capable of carrying 25 packs. General Neely will be on one craft. General Boyd will be on the second aircraft. Because of the limited seating, this is a first come, first serve opportunity. Please send an email to my legislative aide, Amanda Daley, at [email protected] with the following information: your full name, home address, emergency contact with their phone number. Additionally, the National Guard will require each passenger to complete a waiver form, which I have here at my desk that I will need you to fill out. I must turn these in this afternoon so the National Guard can create individual travel orders and the flight manifest. The first 50 people to send emails will get a seat on the aircraft. I'm going to reserve 51-54 so if someone drops off, I don't want to have an empty web seat on the aircraft. I reserved seats for our two House photographers. Additionally, the Air or Army Guard will have PAO personnel, public affairs office or personnel, traveling with us to help with additional coverage. For planning purposes, the aircraft will… the aircrafts will depart at 0800 hours from Springfield at the Stellar's air terminal. After the overview brief, we'll be broken down into several smaller groups and escorted around Lincoln's ChalleNGe by current cadets in training. After the tour, we will return to Rantoul Airport, departing approximately 10:30 hours. Suggestions for those of you who want to go, dress appropriately. As Representative Mayfield's husband has said, Chinooks tend to leak oil, that means they're flyable. I suggest wearing pants, flat shoes, and a comfortable top. We may be loading the aircraft with the props turning, and I don't want to see anybody's… lose a… clothing. Hearing protection. If you have your own fitted, I would suggest you bring them along. Otherwise, some will be provided. There's not enough room on the aircraft for luggage, but if you want to carry a water bottle or something like that on with you, that's okay. So, for those of you who are not familiar with Lincoln's ChalleNGe, I do have a flier. I noticed that several Members from that side of the aisle bum-rushed him to get on this list. Members from our side need to go here as well. This is a free-tuition program. It is six months. It's for youth ages fifteen and a half to eighteen that are struggling. These are youth who are… we are losing them in the system. They're dropping out of school. They're struggling in school. They have… some of them have IEPs. Some of them have behavioral problems. They offer driver's training, OSHA training, finance classes, welding, computer classes, forklift certification, nutrition classes. Again, this is totally free. We are paying for this out of our public safety appropriation dollars. And I think it would be great to have several Democrats join me on this helicopter. I am terrified of flying, but as my husband stated, he's military, he stated that as long as the Chinook is shaking and spinning oil, we will be safe. So, please join me in signing up. This is a great program, and I want Democrats to join us. I want this to be bipartisan. This is a great experience for our youth, and it's something you can take back. "Thank you, Mr. Speaker. This morning I had the pleasure of attending the Illinois State Police Heritage Foundation's unveiling of the inscription honoring fallen State Trooper Todd Anthony Hanneken. This was a very solemn event. We have a State Police Memorial Park, if you haven't seen it, over by the state police headquarters. It's 615 East Lawrence Avenue, where they inscribe the name of every fallen state police officer who's given his life in the line of duty. Today we honored Todd Hanneken, fallen State Trooper, who was a member of the Cadet Class #100. And also, coincidently, coincides with the day of his passing, one year ago today. Reminds us of the dedication that the men and women who serve us go through, I guess, is… and experience. We don't honor their service often enough. Today was a very solemn reminder of the last measure of service that Todd Hanneken offered our state. And I'd like just to take a moment of silence to honor the memory of fallen State Trooper Todd Hanneken on the first anniversary of his passing in the line of duty."

"I have the honor today to talk about a woman that… for Women's History Month… that I am so proud to say that was a friend of mine, was a friend to many people in this room, and to many people throughout this state. So, in honor of Women's History Month this time, I am happy to talk about one of the best-known women in Illinois political history, Judy Baar Topinka. As many people know, Judy was probably the best person in the world to talk about bipartisanship and working across the aisle. After winning in a crowded primary, she was elected to the Illinois House of Representatives in 1980, and then continued to serve in the State Senate for over a decade. After serving three terms as Illinois Treasurer, Topinka ran for Governor and became the first woman to receive the Illinois GOP nomination for that office. She was also the first woman to serve as the Illinois Republican Chairperson. After her campaign for Governor, she made a political comeback by getting elected as Comptroller in 2010. And she was the first woman to win two different statewide offices. She passed away suddenly, only a month after winning reelection as Comptroller. She was a dedicated public servant until the… up until the very end of her life. Judy was known for her bigger-than-life personality, and her practicality, and her willingness to work across the aisle. Judy loved polka, and she never passed a garage sale without stopping in to check out the best deals. I have a personal connection to Judy. She was a great friend of my uncle, and they had a morning coffee club that they called the Rusty Button Club. And as my uncle passed away just a few years after Judy, they still remember both of them as they go. She was an institution in Illinois politics and our state. And our state is much better place for having her as part of it. Thank you for helping me honor Judy Baar Topinka."
