Unfortunately, this year we had to recognize four fallen firefighters from the State of Illinois. So, I would like to state their names and ask for a moment of silence in remembrance of these fallen firefighters, please. Ladies and Gentlemen, I'd like to recognize four fallen firefighters in the State of Illinois. Firefighter/paramedic Daniel Capuano from the Chicago Fire Department; firefighter/paramedic Fidel Serrano from the Chicago Fire Department; firefighter/paramedic Mark Zielinski from the Matteson Fire Department; and Chief Kenneth Lehr from the Medora Fire Protection District. "If the Body could just indulge me for a second. I really appreciate the fact that Representative Willis mentioned some of the fallen firefights, but I happened to know one of them. And that's Mark Zielinski from the Village of Matteson. And I just want to tell you a few things about him for a second. I've done a Resolution for him, a Death Resolution that was passed and we presented it to the Matteson Police Department. As I said many times before, especially with small fire departments, you get to know the people personally. Same thing with police departments, you get to know them personally. They are paragons in the community. You know, they open up baseball games. They do things… you know them by first names. And I remember getting a call one day from a trustee in Matteson. And she said, did you hear about Mark? I know a lot of Marks. But just something told me it was Mark from the Matteson Police Department. Mark was administering CPR at a store… at a Wal-Mart in Matteson, had a heart attack and died. That was Mark; he died doing what he wanted to do. And it was a very hard time for the entire region, the entire southland, but especially the Matteson Fire Department because they had just lost a beloved firefighter just a few months before. And so, I just wanted to mention that to you, because it's very, very, very important, you know, that we remember them. Certainly when their gone, when they have given their lives doing what they do. But we also have to revere them and cherish them when they're here. You know, so when you see them in the community, you say, hey, you know, what's going on, hey Mark. And can we go to a lot of breakfasts, pancake breakfasts that the fire department does. But we have to remember all of them while they are here because you never know if they're going to come home or not. So, I just wanted to tell you that about my friend Mark who will be with us forever from the Village of Matteson. Thank you."

"Many us who were driving home north on Thursday, learned of the horrific accident that occurred on I-55. What we didn't know at the time was the name of the woman that passed away. Her name was Ashley Borja; she was… she was only 20 years old. She went to high school with my daughter and attended my church. But it isn't just the Plainfield community that is… is feeling the loss of Ashley, it's the entire state. Ashley, was a leader in every sense of the word. I mean the list of her accomplishments is quite amazing for somebody who's 20 years old. She was President of a student group that helped people with depression and thoughts of suicide. She was a junior at Bradley University where she was studying mechanical engineering and was a member of the student senate there. She was actively involved in the school's Lewis J. Burger Center for Student Leadership and Public Service, which promotes a number of volunteer projects. She had just come home from school that previous weekend to volunteer for an event in our… our community called The Big Serve, where a bunch of churches and organizations get together to help perform a myriad of projects in the area. Instead of relaxing over her last winter break, she spent it in… in the Louisiana area working for Habitat for Humanity. Just an amazing individual. She had just won an internship at Caterpillar, iconic Illinois corporation. Illinois lost one of its brightest young stars Thursday in that accident. Services are actually are underway as we speak. At the end of the first semester a student driving home after finals was also involved in a car accident and was tragically killed. So, this has hit home twice in one year for Bradley, and again the entire Bradley community is in mourning and you are correct, Representative we lost one of our… one of our brightest rising stars in the state in losing Ashley. "Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Today I rise to present House Resolution 993, which recognizes and declares the week of September 11 through 17, 2016, as Ovarian Cyst Awareness Week in Illinois. The idea for this Resolution, Members, was brought to me in January of this year by a young lady who is now Miss Black Illinois, 2016. Miss Brittney Brooks, who is present behind me in the gallery with her family and friends. Let's please recognize her. Miss Brooks, like thousands of women annually has been fighting ovarian cyst, herself and has been courageous and stepped up to be the voice on this issue, to bring awareness. It is very important that everyone understands that ovarian cysts typically are harmless, but in some case become cancerous and deadly. More than 20 thousand women in the United States are diagnosed with ovarian cancer each year, and 77 percent of these women will be diagnosed once the disease has reach an advanced stage. Most ovarian cysts are benign and usually go away within a few hours (sic- months), but a small number of them do become cancerous.
