Thank you very much. So this is basically an initiative that came out of the Anti-Harassment, Equality and Access Panel that traveled around the State. One of the things that we found is that women didn't run for office many times because they had child care expenses and were not able to cover those expenses and therefore many of them didn't run for office. So -- so this is - - basically allows political campaigns -- committees to use campaign funds to pay for child care, including child care expenses incurred by candidates, officeholders, campaign (staff), and volunteers, so long as the child care is necessary for fulfillment of the political, government, or policy duties. I'd like to make it clear though that we believe this is currently allowed under existing law and this is a clarification. I know of no objections and I would certainly ask for an Aye vote.

Senate Bill 2559 is an initiative of the Adoption Law Subcommittee of the Chicago Bar Association that wants to assist adoptive families and birth families in improving, updating, and expediting adoptions in the State of Illinois. So this -- these are highly technical changes about jurisdiction, about appointments of the guardian ad litem, birth parent affidavits, and helps make some parts of our statute consistent.

Ladies and Gentlemen of the Senate, yesterday, five people tragically lost their lives in Milwaukee after a man opened fire on the Molson Coors plant before turning the gun on himself. Such violence is senseless. Six families went to bed last night mourning the loss of a loved one. And those families, and all the families who have lost someone to gun violence, need us right now. We can all recognize these tragic events are happening far too 21 STATE OF ILLINOIS 101st GENERAL ASSEMBLY REGULAR SESSION SENATE TRANSCRIPT 84th Legislative Day 2/27/2020 regularly. No one should have to fear for their safety when they go to school, the grocery store, or even work. When will we have enough? I ask that you please stand silently for a moment of reflection and respect. Words do not adequately express the grief I feel as I have to make this speech once again.
