She attended and graduated from St. John the Evangelist in Streamwood, making the honor roll in both seventh and eighth grade. While there, she played volleyball and basketball, she became an altar server and acted and sang in many musicals. Most recently, she had the leading role of Wednesday in The Addams Family comedy. She enjoys volleyball at Schaumburg High School. She's in the volleyball club. She's looking forward to a trip to Spain with her Spanish teacher and classmates, and that will occur in May. So, help me welcome Kali -- and then I also have with me up in the gallery, Chelsea Dekok. Chelsea is participating with the lieutenant governor's Girls Lead Program. And she is going -- she's going to be working with me in that program so she came to the Capitol today. She is a junior at Springfield High School in Springfield, and she is very active in their student government, in the theater, and a lot of different activities. She says she does tennis, but not that well, but she's participating. And she is gearing up for the spring performance of Mean Girls. Woods is an eighth grader at Deerpath Middle School, lives in Lake Forest and will be attending Lake Forest High School next year. His favorite subjects are trig (trigonometry) and Latin. I wasn't even eligible to get in any of that kind of thing, and he's very interested in politics and government. Woods is a competitive sailor and will be sailing with the Lake Forest High School Championship Team during the spring, summer, and fall of 2025. He also holds a black belt in Taekwondo, another thing we have in common. Woods visited the Capitol last year with his school class and is very excited to be here and sort of look behind the curtain. Orange and blue Urbana-Champaign and is a sophomore majoring in political science with an emphasis on public administration. For the past two years, Conrad has been an intern with the Illinois House of Representatives for Sue Scherer. Conrad's working in constituent services. After the University of Illinois, Conrad hopes to attend graduate school, furthering his education and inspiring to be a future public servant doing the work of the people. Today I rise with immense pride and excitement to deliver a congratulatory message. I, as a proud alum, and Senator representing Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville campus. It is an honor to extend my best wishes to SIU (SIUE) men's basketball team as they prepare to face the University of Houston in the first round of the NCAA tournament this Thursday in Wichita, Kansas. This remarkable achievement marks a significant milestone for SIUE men's basketball program, a journey that began in 1967 and reached new heights with its transition to Division 1 in 2008. This season, the Cougars have showcased their tenacity and skill, highlighted by a formidable defense and dynamic offense. They broke 10 STATE OF ILLINOIS 104th GENERAL ASSEMBLY REGULAR SESSION SENATE TRANSCRIPT 26th Legislative Day 3/19/2025 the school record for wins in a season, claiming 22 victories. Even more impressively, they secured their first ever Ohio Valley Conference Tournament Championship, earning their first trip to the NCAA March Madness Tournament. Just a couple of days ago, I was very proud to celebrate SIUE Men's Basketball Team at Selection Sunday. And as a former SIUE athlete myself, I can say with certainty, that that ceremony will forever be etched in history. Much of this success is thanks to Head Coach Brian Baroni, now in his sixth year at the helm, guiding this team to unprecedented heights. Leading the charge on the court is Ray'Sean Taylor, our all-time leading scorer with an astounding 1,952 points. His remarkable performance earned him both the OVC Player of the Year and the OVC tournament MVP honors. This talented squad is made up of incredible athletes, six of them from right here in Illinois. Ray'Sean Taylor, is from Collinsville; Kyle Thomas, from Bolingbrook; Jordan Pickett, from Belleville; Arnas Sakenis, from Tinley Park; Declan Dillon, from Peoria and Darrion Baker, from Chicago. To Coach Barone and the entire SIUE men's basketball team, congratulations on this incredible accomplishment.
