PRESIDING OFFICER: (SENATOR DEMUZIO) All right. Will Senate come to order, please. We have some - - motions, Madam Secretary.
move that a11 applicable rules be suspended for the purpose of allowing Senate Bills 52, 53, 54, 395, 396 and 397 to be considered until June 2l, 1991. Filed by Senator Rock.
PRESIDING OFFICER: (SENATOR DEMUZIO) A1l right. Senator Rock.
Thank you, Mr. President, Ladies and Gentlemen of the Senate. This, again, is a motion to postpone and take out from under the rules deadlines the Senate Bills 52, 53, 54, 395, 96 and 97, that deal with the subject of redistrieting and reapportionment. think it should be obvious to everyone that in -- in the preparation of an amendment to those bills, the key element are the legal desariptions of the various districts as -- as they are configured. And I think it's fair to say that mechanieally, we simply would be in too much of a rush to attempt to do it today and tomorrow, pursuant to the previous deadline. have discussed this at some great length With Senator Philip. believe it's fair to say he agrees with me. And so, think ltfs in everybody's best interest, particularly given the fact that we are confronted with a Frkday deadkkne for the conskderatkon of 5 STATE OF ILLINOIS 87th GENERAL ASSEMBLY REGULAR SESSION SENATE TRANSCRIPT 41st Legislative Day June 12, 1991 substantive House bills. think lt would not be fair to the Membership, in terms of the presentatlon of those bills, to devote a great deal of time today and/or tomorrow for tbe purpose of discussing a proposed map. So I suggest, and have moved, that we - - we will extend the deadline one Week from this Friday to a week from Friday, and I hope that meets with everybody 's approval.
