Madam President, today is Zoo Day in the State Senate . And it - - is with great pleasure that I rise today to recognize the Brookfield Zoo fo r its outstanding contribution made towards the conservation of the world 's wlldlife . Since the early 1970s, zoos have made monumental changes to dedicate themselves towa rds educating the public on the impo rtance of habitat conservation. An example of Brookfield Zoo 's efforts were seen this morning , when staff and volunteers from the Zoo held a Kid 's Swamp Pest in the Stratton Office Building , teaching children abcut the wonders of our wetlands. I am especially proud that Brookfield Zoo is my district , but people from a1l over the State visit the park , leaving inspired , educated and , yes , exhausted from a full day of fun. In fact, nearly fifty percent of the Zoo 's visltors came from outside Cook County . Madam President , Brookfield Zoo replies -- relies upon dedica eed volunteers fo r many of their programs. Today, I Would like ko recoqnize and welcome the Brookfield Zoo volunteers who held Kid 's Swamp Fest today . And they 're over in the gallery . We have Russ Evans, Jane Klimcke , Lynn Dempsey , Mary Nodulman, Kim White, and Lisa and David Heim . Wlth them are Zoo 13 STATE 0F ILLINOIS 90TH GENERAL ASSEMBLY REGULAR SESSION SENATE TRANSCRIPT 39th Legislative Day Aprtl 29 # 1997 staff members , Linda Flannery Jim Schulz , Regi Mezydlo , and fo rme r Senate staffer, Laura Jasiek .
